KNYSNA TOUR
We take a scenic drive to Knysna over the famous Outeniqua Pass and through Wilderness and George.
Wilderness
Wilderness lies 15 km east of George, between the Kaaimans River and the Goukamma Nature Reserve. It is renowned for its vast stretches of beach, tranquility and the absence of windswept wetlands, wild and stormy seas. Wilderness overlooks not only the sea, but also the placid lagoon, the Serpentine, which meanders between the Touws River , Island Lake , Langvlei and Rondevlei.
George
George is the sixth oldest town in South Africa - the first founded under British rule - and was named after the reigning monarch in 1811, King George III. Nestling at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains , George finds itself at the centre of natures “ Garden Route ” in the Cape Wildflower Floral Kingdom . It is the business hub of the region and offers a variety of conference facilities, restaurants, tourist attractions and activities.
Knysna
Knysna has been voted several years in a row as the most popular holiday destination for national and international visitors. Knysna is set on the banks of the Knysna Lagoon and is known as the Jewel of the Garden Route . Knysna offers many activities and attractions of a wide variety.
Main attractions in Knysna tour:
Knysna Heads
The Knysna Heads are the most well-known attraction in Knysna - two great sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon which connects the estuary with the sea. A lookout has been erected on the Eastern Head, commanding spectacular views of the lagoon, Leisure Isle and Knysna. Here you can enjoy a pleasant boat trip across the Knysna Lagoon to the western side of the Knysna Heads.
• Knysna Waterfront
Knysna was once was a small harbour that served the timber trade. This has however made space for the fairly newly built Waterfront area with its popular restaurants and shops. It is from here that several charter boats sail.
Knysna Elephant Park
The Knysna Elephant Park offers a rare and exciting opportunity to get close to the gentle giants, who live in a controlled, free range environment in the heart of the Garden Route.
In order to cater for all preferences the park has a range of inspiring experiences. The Daily Tour provides the shorter experience of meeting, feeding and interacting with the elephants. For longer experiences the park offers Elephant Back Rides or Walks, while the Exclusive Sunrise / Sunset Safaris and Sundowners provide more private and intimate encounters.
At the park, you will be welcomed by well-trained and informative guides, and after viewing a short video presentation, a tractor and trailer will drive you through the fields to the ellies. Here you will have the opportunity to touch, feed and photograph the gentle giants.
